NEW COPIC BOARD MEMBERS: STEAMBOAT PHYSICIAN AND DELTA DENTAL CEO

We are proud to announce the election of two accomplished leaders to COPIC’s Board of Directors: Brian C. Harrington, M.D. and Kathryn “Kate” Paul.

Brian Harrington, MD, MPH, FAAFP is a family physician in private practice with Yampa Valley Medical Associates, P.C. in Steamboat Springs. His practice includes outpatient and inpatient medicine as well as obstetrics. He serves as the Medical Director of the Doak Walker Care Center, a skilled nursing facility. He is also the Routt County Public Health Officer.

A native of Chadron, Nebraska, Dr. Harrington is a graduate of Harvard College, Dartmouth Medical School, and the University of Washington School of Public Health. He completed his three-year internship and residency training at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington and was chief resident. He also completed the Army’s Faculty Development Fellowship at Madigan. Dr. Harrington served as a physician in the United States Army for 12 years, spending much of his time in academic medicine, including as the Family Medicine Residency Program Director at Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas. He received an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2003.

Dr. Harrington is board certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Harrington has been published in peer reviewed journals and is currently a contributing editor for Prescriber’s Letter, a subscription service for prescribers to keep them up to date on new developments in drug therapy. 

Students from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine do rural medicine rotations with Dr. Harrington, and he is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. He has previously served on the board of directors for the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians. 

Dr. Harrington is married to Lori Harrington, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon. They have four children. 

Health care policy is one of Dr. Harrington’s special interests. He provided powerful, convincing testimony during the 2008 legislative battle that succeeded in defeating Senate Bill 164.
